We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that this new year will bring you much love, happiness, and success. With a new year it is time for resolutions and ours is to re-examine how to put pressure on ABC as the time table for the rights to revert based on the contract is quickly approaching. Of course the decision on whether rights revert before the end of the lawsuit is at the discretion of the judge. So, let’s encourage ABC/Disney to make getting the rights back their New Year’s Resolution! Let’s send emails to remind them that we are still here and that we hope they are focused on getting the rights back!

We also want to hear what your personal New Year’s resolution(s) are! Please share in the comments.

For me, Kymba, my resolution revolves around doing what I can as a mother to help my daughter overcome her medical and financial issues. In case you want more information on that situation you can visit http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/please-help-katryna-stress-a-little-less/274699 for details.

We are so glad you all are here and can’t wait to make 2015 the Year of the Soaps!

Over the next few days we will be reaching out to the major networks
that benefit from having soap fans tune in daily to their soap operas.
Soap opera viewership is on the climb and the networks could capitalize on
this by hosting the Daytime Emmy Awards and using that as a way to help
promote their network’s soap(s).

First up is ABC of course. Please send an email about your disappointment
over the fact that ABC once again snubbed their soap opera loving viewers by
not entering a deal to air the Daytime Emmy Awards.
ABC- why would we give your other programming a chance when you don’t value us?
Since you are not airing this award show can you please make sure that fans are
made aware that they can view it at  www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5 PM PDT/8 PM EST on June 22
via ABC’s social media? This would be a start at showing us some good faith.

Throwback Thursday
ABC has a ton of vintage AMC and OLTL episodes that they could be sharing with their fans. Let’s reach out to Albert Cheng, Executive Vice President, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television to request that ABC make these vintage episodes be available online. This is a great way for them to keep the shows top of mind and see what kind of interest the shows still have. We are not saying this is the same as having new episodes nor is it the same as SoapNet but it is a start. We need to start making some ground and this is a way to do so. Keep in mind that as executive vice president, Digital Media, for the Disney/ABC Television Group, Albert Cheng is charged with general management and strategic oversight of digital media, as well as development of ancillary digital revenue streams for Disney/ABC Television Group’s diverse portfolio of broadcast and cable networks, including ABC Entertainment, ABC News, ABC Daytime, ABC Family, Disney Channel and formerly SOAPnet. To that end, he leads a team that oversees product development, marketing and operations for the Group’s digital media content platforms, including video-on-demand, broadband, web-based and mobile platforms, as well as interactive television technologies.

Wednesday
Even if you are not a GH fan I ask that you do this anyway! GH posted great numbers during May Sweeps-it attracted its largest audience in seven years in Total Viewers (3.068 million) and best performance in three years in Women 18-49 (747,000/1.2 rating) and Women 25-54 (999,000/1.6 rating) – since May Sweeps 2007 and 2011, respectively. The soap ranked as the #1 daytime show in Women 18-49 (tied in rating). Further, GH stood as the #1 program in Women 18-34 (252,000/0.7 rating), hitting a 4 year high in the demo – since May Sweeps 2010. The iconic soap posted gains of 8% in Total Viewers (3.068 million vs. 2.851 million), 6% in Women 18-34 (252,000 vs. 237,000) and 4% in Women 25-54 (999,000 vs. 964,000).
Let’s leave comments through GH’s comment form and voice line congratulating them on this and reminding them that if they had AMC and OLTL on we would be supporting those shows just as much which would thrill advertisers.

Tuesday we reached out to Brian Frons’ replacement, Lisa Hackner, regarding our preference for a soapy ABC Daytime.
Today we reach out to Bob Iger, Anne Sweeney, and Ben Sherwood regarding Lisa’s hiring and our concern that her background is very tied to talk shows especially Tyra Banks. When will you listen and respect your viewers? We want soaps. We love GH and miss AMC and OLTL terribly. Let’s cc Lisa on these emails so she knows we have concerns and are taking them upstream to her bosses.

If you are reading tasks and liking posts but not tasking- why?
We don’t get it. If we can’t drum up more participation we are going to need to rethink if/how we task.

I know there are some of you who do every task we put out and to those of you who do I thank you, but it isn’t enough. We need hundreds of congratulatory messages to Ben for his card for it to have an impact. Hundreds of people emailing, tweeting, calling ETC to make a difference. So come on guys, follow the link below to read about the card and then leave your messages to Ben either on the blog or in comments on Facebook.
